MUSIC, MYSTERY AND MADNESS

Music was in the air at the Miami International Film Festival last night, with a host of films that celebrated a variety of genres of music and musicians. The Colony Theater rocked to a reggae rhythm at the World Premiere screening of U.S. director Saul Swimmer's documentary BOB MARLEY & FRIENDS . A celebration of the life and art of the reggae music legend, who died here in Miami twenty five years ago, was a must-see event that features classic performance footage of Marley himself, as well as performance tributes by Seal, Ziggy Marley, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Peter Tosh. Members of Marley's family, including his mother, were special guests at the packed screening.

A post-screening party at the Raleigh Hotel on South Beach kept the reggae rhythm going into the wee hours. Around an open bonfire, filmmakers and film guests danced to the mix of reggae, Caribbean and African rhythms. A mini-concert by the Refugee All Stars, the subject of a documentary film at the Festival, had everyone on their feet and swaying to the beat.
