By coincidence, Swimmer was made aware of some "lost" Marley footage. This film had not been kept in a climate controlled environment, and some of it had been irreparably damaged. However, frame by frame, the digitally recaptured content was included into the production of "Bob Marley & Friends." Production proved to be a challenge both with the technical obstacles and trying to incorporate content from the entire Marley family. As in the case of Saul Swimmer's other music documentaries, “The Concert for Bangladesh ” and “Queen—We Will Rock You”, the finished product became more than the sum of its parts. Performances by Seal, Sting, Springsteen, Chapman and others, and the selection of "Get Up, Stand Up" used in the 1986 Amnesty International Concert, proved to be pivotal scenes, evoking a feeling that Bob Marley, dead since 1981, still shares a voice with music giants decades later. "Bob Marley & Friends" brings reggae style and Marley's music to the giant MobileVision screen . It creates an atmosphere of understanding and listening to the words and music of a man whose message is more relevant today than ever. Besides performances by Bob Marley, also included are Peter Tosh, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, Ky-Mani Marley, Stephen Marley, Tracy Chapman, Third World , Wyclef Jean, Lauren Hill, and Dubmatique, among others.
